  Good to know:
  SPLINE tools - wrenches or sockets - are different from conventional tools with hex (6-point) or bihex (12-point) profiles. Spline tools have a special wave profile instead. For you as a DIY mechanic, the advantage of the spline technology is that you only need one tool for virtually "identical" metric and imperial sizes (e.g.: 19 spline works on 3/4" AF)! This makes them ideal for doing jobs on some English, Japanese and American motorbikes.
  The spline principle ensures that the force you apply acts less on the edges and instead over a much larger surface area on the flanks of the bolt or nut. That means you can use more torque and, at the same time, there's virtually no risk of rounding off bolts or nuts.
